Kite surfing: Kite beach - Capetown Wind Direction: SE Wind Stength: 10 - 25knots Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 27C Sea Temperature: cold Weather: Sunshine Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Finally moved up to Table view so I could go kiting every day. Got to the
beach for around 1ish and there were just the locals all sunbathing on the
beach as there was zero wind. I waited around for an hour and a hlaf to see
if anything hapened to no avail. Was just about to leave but after chatting
to a local kiter; he said the cape dr. wind would kick in around 3ish so I
rigged my kite and sure enough the wind filled into a nice 10 knots which
was ideal conditions for flyin my kite for first time.
I was a bit apprehensive at first but I just went for it and got it flyin
over my head straight away doing very gentle turns. The wind was picking up
all the time and more and more kiters were tunrning up for an after work
session.
First session was a success with no crashes and no incidents, I did get
dragged along the beach at one point when I did a sharp turn with the kite
and just got it under control as I was gettin dragged into the water. A bit
of a scary moment not helped by some strong gusts coming through.
After a good hour and half messing around on the beach, I landed it and
started packing up as the wind was continuosly picking up. More and more
kiters were tunring up mostly on 7 & 9m kites. When I was leaving, I
counted 56 ites in the water along the coast and there would be at least
another 30 -40 rigging on the beach. Awesome place for kiting!!
Gonna head up to Big bay tomorrow if the winds ok and start body dragging.
